We were 9-10 strong at different points in the day and we got lots of piecing completed, kits made, and caps stitched. Watch for February Meeting Announcements – we plan to cut the Charity ‘stash’ even more! Thanks to all who participated and to Sylvia for organizing. If you have a Charity project, including round robins, please bring them to the next meeting. PS – BEST part of the day – the delicious Pot-Luck lunch!
Our Holiday party was held December 18. Sixteen members and one guest were welcomed into Becky Klein’s studio (which is fabulous and has cabinets galore!). Homemade soups, salads and breads were followed by a dessert buffet! Gift card prizes were awarded for attendance and the most “Sew and Tells.”
We will be hosting AQG President Elaine Putnam. Our program that evening includes a viewing of our PP President’s Challenge Quilts. “Time Warp” is the theme, we are to create a quilt using both a traditional block and a modern interpretation of that same block. Also include a brief history of the traditional block and how the modern version came to be.
Modern Quilt Perspectives: 12 Patterns for Meaningful Quilts… his book, his purpose – Meaningful Quilts.
There are stories behind each of Thomas Knauer’s quilts, and meanings – from Morse Code and Braille messages, to a quilt for victims of Domestic Violence with words of the ‘Violence Vs. Women Act’ quilted in, You are Here, a voice for “Handmade”, a rainbow quilt for his Mother and her Partner’s marriage with Double Wedding Ring Quilting…. the stories abound and his creativity and imagination inspired!
Nine members and three guests attended. This year’s theme was “Permission to Play – Storytelling Quilts. ” Marilyn K (1st photo, far right) and Cheryl G – pictured next to current member Cheryl Gr. joined at this meeting. We will be meeting Thursday November 13, 2014 at 6:30 PM at the Chandler Center for the Arts. We will have a ‘private’ viewing of the newest Art Quilt Exhibit “Permission to Play”. Guests, Friends and Family are welcome to join us for the evening! Admission free.

Bonnie Hunter, Eleanor Burns, Judy Neimeyer , Kathy Doughty of “Material Obsession” all the way from Australia and Tula Pink were the featured guests at our October meeting!!! Don’t you wish you had been there?! On October 16, 7 pm the program for the meeting was to bring your favorite quilter! We were introduced to a variety of nationally and internationally known quilters, saw images of their work, books, patterns and numerous sample quilt blocks and tops. It was fun to learn more about these quilters AND our members who presented their work!
Thanks to all for making this a joyous celebrations – to Ray and Jeff for opening the 3 Dudes – to past President’s for attending and their lasting contributions – to current President Terry Findlay for all the planning – to Sylvia Hirsch as well as previous Charity Quilt organizers for the more than 30 quilts that were donated – Cheryl Griffin for the fabulous door prizes -Jill Eskew for arranging for the amazing cake.. the list goes on.
